15-Year-Old Girl Charged As An Adult For Killing Her Mother

15-year-old Anna Schroeder is accused of fatally shooting her mother, Peggy, in July 2017, and Whiteside County Judge Trish Joyce dismissed the juvenile case and ruled that Schroeder will be charged as an adult on Thursday.

Schroeder shot her mother dead on July 6th last year, and prosecutors have charged the 15-year-old with first-degree murder, arson, and concealment of a homicide. Schroeder was in a relationship with 16-year-old Rachel Helm, and out of fear that her mother would not approve of their relationship, Schroeder shot her mother.

Upon returning home from work, Schroeder allegedly told her mother to put a towel over her face, before using a revolver to shoot her in the head. Schroeder reportedly confessed to then murder via text message to her lover, Helm, who then came over to the house and the pair spent the next two days attempting to clean the murder scene, dispose of the body, and remove evidence.

Schroeder’s mother’s body was found in her Morrison home, and had been set on fire by her daughter in an attempt to conceal her crime. Helm returned home and told her mother what Schroeder had done.

Schroeder and Helm are currently being held at the Mary Davis Detention Home, with Schroeder being held on a $1 million bond, whilst Helm is being held on a $250,000 bond. Helm is being charged with arson and concealing a homicide. If Schroeder is convicted as an adult, she will face 20 to 60 years in prison, and no possibility of reducing the sentence
