Wife Hides Affair By Dumping Newborn On Doorstep After Becoming Pregnant By Lover
A married lady who fell pregnant after having an affair and then dumped her newborn child on a doorstep has been spared prison. Leigh-Anne Varley kept her complete pregnancy secret from her spouse. The 36-year-old told her husband and their two kids that she had ovarian cysts which led to swelling.
She went into labor while doing the house chores and delivered the baby in the bathroom of her home. Varley wrapped her baby in a dressing gown and placed him on the doorstep of a home with a note saying to take care of the baby.
The baby was found cold, but unharmed between 4 and 5 hours later by a passerby. He was taken to a medical facility for examination. Leigh-Anne Varley was handed a 14-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, after admitting neglect and ill treatment of a baby at an earlier hearing. The court heard that Varley was worried about splitting up the family if her husband learned about her extramarital affair.
