University Of Connecticut Is Serving Roasted Crickets To Customers
A food truck located at the University of Connecticut has decided to start serving roasted crickets to customers. According to The Daily Campus, the dining services at the university are advertising the insects as organic. The crickets are not genetically modified and are described as being earth friendly.
The nutritional facts label states that the crickets are high in protein and low in fat, and are also a good source of B vitamins, iron and zinc. The University of Connecticut has said that the farm that supplies the school with the crickets uses carbon dioxide to kill them. Afterwards, they then roast them and ship them off.
The crickets are being sold for 99 cents and are served in small plastic containers. Customers can purchase the crickets as a tasty snack or a taco topping. John Smith, the dining services area assistant manager, says the food truck sells about two or three containers of the roasted crickets per day.
