‘Supergirl’ Officially Getting Series On CBS


Supergirl has officially gotten a series order from CBS and will be slated into their 2015-2016 television season. The series, according to Variety will star Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers (Kara Zor El). Of course, those names are just the names of her alter ego to the heroine she will become as Superman’s cousin, Supergirl.

The show will have quite the cast ensemble, including Calista Flockhart returning to television in a major way for the first time in years. Flockhart will play Kara’s boss, Cat Grant, and Mehcad Brooks, who co-star as Kara’s love interest, Jimmy Olsen. Chyler Leigh and Alex Danvers will also have recurring roles. David Harewood will star as the series’ main supervillain, Hank Henshaw.

In DC Comics world, Henshaw is known as Cyborg Superman. Laura Benanti is slated to play Kara’s birth mother, Alura Zor-El, in a major recurring arc. Finally, the show will include Helen Slater, who previously played Supergirl back in the 1984 film and Dean Cain, who played Superman in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman in secret roles.
