Street Fighting Bum Goes From Zero To Hero, Getting Rich In the Process

Rufus Hannah, better known as “Rufus the Stunt Bum” from the “Bum Fights” video series back in 2000, has become famous for reasons other than being an alcoholic and violent bum. Back in 2000, Rufus was willing to break both himself and others for a five dollar bill. We are happy to report that Rufus Hannah has been alcohol free since 2003, and has seriously turned his life around.

Since sobering up, Hannah has developed a career in property management, is a homeless rights activists, and has even published his personal memoirs in a book titled “A Bum Deal“, which recounts the ordeal surrounding his involvement with the Bum Fights Series, and his recovery from alcohol addiction.

Before getting involved in the Bum Fights series, Hannah worked as a construction worker until the age of 27 with a stable family by his side. He joined the U.S. Army, but was unable to continue his career after suffering a serious accident during his basic training. At that point he started to drink heavily. He moved to California in the 90’s, and eventually stumbled upon Ryan McPherson, the producer of Bum Fights.

That phase of his life doesn’t need much attention anymore, but what’s important is that Hannah was able to turn it all around. A hefty settlement from his lawsuit against Bum Fights might have had something to do with that, but the guy was paid pennies to smash his head into walls or worse. So good for him on all counts. We’re glad to see him doing well!
