Satellite Photos Reveal Just How Bad Britain’s Heatwave Has Been

Satellite images have captured just how devastating the heatwave and drought have affected the United Kingdom. In the space of two months, the country has gone from a luscious green island to brown.

This is the longest heatwave the United Kingdom has experienced in 42 years, with the nation seeing just 47mm of rain between June 1st and July 16th. If the temperatures continue, this could be the hottest summer on record for the United Kingdom, according to the Met Office.

The Met Office stated that even if the rest of summer has average temperatures, it will “certainly rank in the top 10 warmest summers on record.” The temperatures have even reduced water levels so far that a drowned village has been revealed that was submerged for more than 100 years.
