Russian Janitor Paints Amazing Murals On School Corridors

Valery Khramov has turned his school into one huge art gallery by painting a vast amount of murals along its walls and corridors. The former art teacher now acts as a caretaker at School No. 168 in Yekaterinburg and completes the paintings in his spare time.

Over the course of 25 years, Valery has covered the walls of all three floors of the school in a variety of paintings. Each area has its own unique set of themes and subjects so that they work together to create an astounding effect. In order to get ready for the beginning of the new term, the 90-year-old spent almost 3 months doing nothing but painting. Speaking in an interview, he said: “I painted all these things in order to foster in the children a sense of what’s beautiful.

Tatyana Vyatkina, the headmistress at the school, explained how much she enjoys the murals and that they help make the school stand out and be a happier place to work, saying: “People who come to visit us are always struck by the paintings. At the same time, it helps to conceal some of the school’s rougher edges.”

Even the students appreciate the hard work. “At break time, we won’t run the way we do normally, but look at the paintings instead, how they’ve been painted,” said a pupil. “Just imagine the range of colours that were needed.
