Russia Has Just 12 Hours to Account for the Poisoning of Sergei Skripal
Yesterday, Theresa May – the current prime minister of the United Kingdom, gave Russia until midnight tonight (UK time) to account for the poisoning of ex-Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter on March 4th.
Both Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, were poisoned by a military-grade nerve agent developed by Russia, known as Novichok. Up until now, there have been no claims to the poisoning, and Russia has stayed quiet.
“Either this was a direct act by the Russian State against our country. Or the Russian government lost control of this potentially catastrophically damaging nerve agent and allowed it to get into the hands of others,” Theresa May stated.
While there is no new information as to which is the case, the Russian Ambassador was summoned to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to explain which of these two possibilities actually happened. The Russians have until midnight tonight, Tuesday 13th March, to respond to the allegations – leaving them only twelve hours left.
“Should there be no credible response, we will conclude that this action amounts to an unlawful use of force by the Russian State against the United Kingdom.” Theresa said, adding “And I will come back to this House and set out the full range of measures that we will take in response.”
