Picasso Painting Breaks World Records After Selling For $179 Million

One of the most famous artists of the last century, Pablo Picasso, proves to be one of the most valuable visionaries to date, as his art continues to shatter world records. His “Women of Algiers (Version O)” painting was sold for a little over $179 million, making it the most expensive painting ever auctioned.

The previous record was held by “Three Studies of Lucian Freud” by Francis Bacon, which sold for $142.4 million, earlier in 2013.

Women of Algiers (Version O)” is a part of a 15-painting series (version from “A” through “O”), which were inspired by Eugène Delacroix’s painting of the same name. Created between 1954 and 1955, the art piece by Picasso is appreciated by collectors for a variety of reasons. However, according to industry experts, most expensive art collectors see these top works rather as either a long lasting investment or than simply a piece for an art collection.
