Ohio Mother Charged With Child Endangerment After Son Falls In Cheetah Pit

An Ohio mother is being charged with child endangerment after her son fell into a cheetah pit at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Michelle Schwab, of Delaware, Ohio, is accused of holding her two-year-old son over a railing at the Cleveland Zoo when he fell into a cheetah exhibit, a fall of about ten feet.

On Monday, Schwab was charged with child endangerment in Cleveland Municipal Court. The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo said the child fell into the cheetah exhibit, but his parents quickly jumped in and pulled him to safety. The boy’s father was also at the zoo, but he was not charged after the incident.

During the fall, zoo officials said the boy did hurt his leg, but the cheetahs never went after him or his parents. There were several witnesses that saw Schwab holding the toddler over the railing. Zoo officials stated the exhibit is temporarily closed while this incident is investigated.
