NFL Cheerleaders Might Win Battle For Minimum Wages

It is no secret now that the much “celebrated” cheerleaders from the NFL are treated extremely poorly by the team management and don’t even qualify for minimum wage. Apart from various gender harassment issues and unethical clauses in contracts, these women aren’t even paid appropriately or on time, making their working conditions that much worse. California, however, looks to correct this grave mistake with new policies and it looks like New York could soon follow suite.

A new state law will be passed in California in January that will finally require professional sports teams to provide cheerleaders with many basic necessities after employment such as minimum wage and sick leave. This law seems to be gaining in popularity and talks suggest that New York intends to pass the soon law in the near future as well.

The issue was first brought into the limelight when current and former NFL cheerleaders sued five leading team for providing horrible work conditions and paying as little as 2.85 dollars an hour. The issue was made a lot worse when it was revealed that the mascots of the team are paid anywhere between 23,000 to 65,000 dollars a year. Hopefully the new legislation will make its way across the country soon enough, and a horrible injustice would be fixed.
