Mom Adopted Her Friend’s Four Children After She Died Of Cancer

How far would you go for your best friend? Would you really be there for them for the best of times–and the worst of times? Friendship is a beautiful thing–and this story features a mom, named Laura Ruffino, that taught us how to do friendship right.

Laura Ruffino and Elizabeth Diamond has been best friends since they were in fifth grade. Sadly, Diamond was diagnosed with Stage 4 Brain Cancer late last year and was left worried on what would happen to her kids if she died.

Laura was worried about her unwell friend getting any more stressed out and promised her friend that she will adopt her daughters if worse comes to worst. Diamond passed in April 2015, and she fulfilled that promise.

Ten years ago I didn’t think this would be my life. But if something gets thrown at you just accept the challenge and do the best you can,” they said in an interview for WKBW-TV.

Ruffino and her husband, Rico, have two daughters of their own when they took in Diamond’s four kids, who are between 5 to 12 years old, after their mom’s passing.

The local community also pitched in and gave their support to give the family the comfort they deserve. They set up a YouCaring campaign which helped raise more than US $80,000 for the family’s suddenly expanded size & responsibilities.
