Mark Zuckerberg Aims To Bring Internet To Refugee Camps
In a recent address to the UN Private Sector Forum, Mark Zuckerberg pledged his support to bring much needed connectivity to refugee camps by helping UN provide internet to the necessary areas. He made the following statement during his speech: “Connectivity will help refugees better access support from the aid community and maintain their links to families.”
His other major priority during this address was to make universal internet a global priority. According to the Facebook founder and CEO, widespread internet access needs to be at the center of all global development initiatives in the future in order to meet the needs of a constantly evolving generation. He also said that Facebook will help create the necessary tools for the United Nations in order to help them track the progress of universal internet.
The United Nations recently adopted a new set of policies that aim at ending world poverty and hunger over the next 15 years, and according to Zuckerberg, connectivity lies at the heart of fixing these problems. He said “Data can help us make smarter decisions but only if you can interpret it quickly and with confidence, so we want to help the UN make decisions that will advance our goals.“
