Make Up Artist Bitten By Monkey On Set Of New Pirates Of The Carribean Film

A make up artist working on the new Pirates of the Caribbean film on the Gold Coast in Australia has been bitten on the ear by a monkey. Ambulance officers were called to the set on Tuesday afternoon. The 54 year old woman – believed to be the make up artist for Johnny Depp – was sitting on a sound stage when the monkey attacked her. Paramedics were able to control the bleeding from a bite on her right ear, before transporting the woman to a local private hospital for further treatment.

The monkey is believed to be capuchin monkey Jack, Geoffrey Rush’s sidekick in the previous Pirates of the Caribbean movies. The monkey had already made headlines before principal photography on the movie began, having been placed in quarantine when he first arrived in Australia late last year due to the country’s strict biosecurity laws. Biosecurity Queensland have been notified of the attack, but have not stated whether or not action will be taken.

It has been one disaster after the other on the set of the film. Earlier this year, Depp’s two dogs – Pistol and Boo – were forced to leave Australia after Depp failed to declare them to Customs after arriving on a private jet, again due to the country’s very strict quarantine regulations. Pistol and Boo sparked a political and social debate in Australia, when the Minister for Agriculture, Barnaby Joyce, threatened to have the dogs euthanized. In addition to the set’s woes, Depp suffered a hand injury – he flew back to the USA for medical treatment – as well as persistent rumors of a divorce from his wife Amber Heard.
