Long Island Commuter Takes Photo Of Quadruple Rainbow

Amanda Curtis, a commuter, waiting for the train at the Long Island Rail Road station spotted a quadruple rainbow Tuesday morning. She took the following picture and posted it on her twitter account:

She shared it because she thought that it would cheer up her friends and followers after a dreary, rainy Monday. She joked, “I’m gonna go buy a lottery ticket now” in an interview with New York Daily News.

Triple and quadruple rainbows were believed to be impossible until as recently as 2011. It occurs when light is reflected 4 times inside water droplets. A regular, single rainbow occurs when light is reflected only once.

When she took the picture, she says, “I didn’t realize how rare it was, I just knew it was beautiful.” As she explained to 1010 WINS, “My train was coming, but I just took out my phone, snapped a quick photo and ran after my train.
