Labor Leadership Contender Wants To Create Women-Only Train Carriages

Jeremy Corbyn, a front man in the upcoming Labor Leadership race, has said that should he win the race he is considering introducing ‘women-only train carriages’. The proposal is his attempt to beat sexual harassment for everyone on public transportation.

While speaking to reporters, Corbyn said he would consult women about introducing this train carriage idea. He is also talking about implementing a 24-hour hotline to report harassment. He said: “My intention would be to make public transport safer for everyone from the train platform to the bus stop to the mode of transport itself. However, I would consult with women and open it up to hear their views on whether women-only carriages would be welcome – and also if piloting this at times and [on] modes of transport where harassment is reported most frequently would be of interest.”

The British Transport Police have previously reported a 25-percent increase in sex offenses on trains and the surrounding stations. Unfortunately, the proposal is being met with a lot of backlash from other Labor Leadership contenders. Yvette Cooper has said: “We shouldn’t have to shut ourselves away from men for our own safety.”

It’s an interesting idea, but perhaps Ms. Cooper is correct.
