Kenya Massacre Condemned By UN Secretary-General

Earlier today, gunmen attacked the Garissa University College in Garissa, Kenya, firing into campus hostels without an intended target in mind. Police and military quickly surrounded the site in an attempt to secure the area. Unfortunately, the Islamic extremist attack on the college is said to have claimed 147 lives plus the four attackers. U.S. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the attack.

Ban’s office said anyone responsible will be brought to justice as soon as possible, according to Boston Herald. His office will be working with the Kenyan government and people “in their efforts to prevent and counter terrorism and violent extremism.” The assault was said to last for 13 hours, beginning at just 5:30 a.m. This is the highest death toll seen in an attack within Kenya by al-Shabab, an Islamic extremist group located within Somalia.

In total, 97 were injured, and 147 were killed in the shooting. Most of the dead and injured were students, though two police officers, one soldier, and two watchmen are among the dead. The attackers entered the college campus with explosives.
