J.K. Rowling Offers An Apology For Killing Off A Beloved Character

It was one of the many deaths that shocked fans of the Harry Potter series. Fred Weasley, one half of the beloved hijinks producing Weasley twins, was killed during the Battle of Hogwarts in the final installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. While many people thought of this to be a cruel act, author J. K. Rowling stated in the past that deciding to kill Fred was one of the hardest decisions she’d made while making the series. She even went as far as telling fans that the other twin, George, named his son Fred in honor of his deceased brother in order to ease them through this tough time.

While it has been quiet for many years on the Fred Weasley front, J.K. Rowling went to Twitter on May 2nd to post an apology for killing off this beloved character. “Today I would just like to say: I’m really sorry about Fred. *Bows head in acceptance of your reasonable ire*” was the condolence offered. While many fans questions as to why she wouldn’t also acknowledge other character whom she killed off, J.K. statedI thought I might apologise for one death per anniversary. Fred was the worst for me, so I started with him.” These are very kind words offered from a lady who shaped the childhood of many. Here’s to hopes that she will honor more of her deceased characters as time goes on.
