Italy Opens The Crappiest Museum In The World

Italy is famous for museums that showcase art and treasures from around the world. The country is full of culture, but a new museum is telling us that Italy is also full of something else — poop! The Museo Della Merda, which translates to mean the Museum of Poop, was opened this week in Italy and is dedicated to the study of human and animal feces.

The museum describes itself as “agency for change” and the museum “houses documents and information on excrement in culture, technology and history.” It is located in the hamlet of Castelbosco and held a launch event this week at the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology in Milan.

Gianantonio Locatelli, the founder of the Museum of Poop, is a Castelbosco farmer and he wanted to put the 220,000 pounds of excrement created by his animals each day to good use. The museum’s website stated, “Few phenomena are so rich in material and conceptual complexity as the cultural history of sh*t.”

The Museum of Poop exhibition will be open on Saturday and Sunday, by appointment only, between May and August.
