HBO Now Will Free You From The Chains Of Cable In April

At long last, fans of hit shows such as Game of Thrones, Veep, and Boardwalk Empire will soon be able to watch to their heart’s content without having to hook themselves up to a pricey cable plan.

During a recent event that was hosted by technology company Apple, Richard Plepler, the CEO of HBO, announced HBO Now, a new standalone streaming service that will function in a similar fashion to services such as Netflix and Hulu. Unlike the standard HBO service, HBO Now will not require a cable or Satellite TV package and will instead be available for a monthly subscription of $14.99. HBO Now will initially only be available on iOS devices such as iPhone and iPad as well as PC.

A launch date for HBO Now hasn’t yet been confirmed but Plepler did confirm it will be available in time for the April 12 premiere of the upcoming fifth season of Game of Thrones. As a special promotion for interested buyers, those who subscribe to HBO Now within the first month of its release will get that month for free.
