Guantanamo Bay Prisoner Has Active Online Dating Profile

A man being detained at the controversial prison Guantanamo Bay has set up an online dating profile and is “detained but ready to mingle.” Lawyer Carlos Warner is operating Muhammad Rahim al-Afghani’s account at Match on his behalf, while the detainee is kept in isolation along with another 115 prisoners.

Rahim al-Afghani has been held at Guantanamo Bay by the CIA since 2007, after the agency argued that he had helped bin Laden escape from Afghanistan. They also feared that he posed a continuing threat to the US, although he has never been charged with any crime and has allegedly faced torture at the hands of his captives.

In a series of letters to his lawyer, Rahim al-Afghani has recently expressed dismay at the hacking of Ashley Maddison and asked that Warner continue to operate his Match profile. “This is terrible news about Ashley Madison, please remove my profile immediately!!!” al-Afghani wrote in a letter dated 21 July. “I’ll stick with Match.com even though you say it is for old people. There is no way I can do Tinder in here.
