Fugitive Caught In Mexico After 25 Years On The Run

In this day and age, escaping a snapshot the average phone is a challenge, let alone well-trained authorities. Granted it can happen, as it has in the past — but even then, it’s more than possible for cold cases to get the closure they need. This is one of those cases, albeit one that took a solid quarter of a century to solve.

Paul Erven Jackson is connected to — if not responsible for — several kidnappings and torturing in Oregon from 1998 to 1990; that led to his arrest, as well as the arrest of his brother and accomplice Vance Roberts. Despite that, in 1991 the two brothers managed to dodge their court date and drop off the radar; only by Roberts’ admission to guilt in 2006 could he be found. That still left Jackson to his devices — until recently, at least.

Incidentally, Jackson happened to appear on the CNN series The Hunt with John Walsh; shortly after the episode aired, Oregon authorities received a tip about Jackson’s possible whereabouts. Sure enough, it led them straight to the fugitive — hiding out in Mexico, and working in an electronics store in Guadalajara. The case has been closed at last; given that Roberts is serving a 108-year sentence, Jackson can probably expect some major jail time.
