Four Year Old’s Body Found In San Diego’s Mission Bay

Four year old Wesley Hilaire went missing after a trip to the beach with his aunt, Damieka White. White took Hilaire, along with a friend and the friend’s children, to the beach. Just before 7:00pm, the group decided to leave and it was then that they noticed the child was missing. Hilaire’s disappearance was immediately reported to the police, as well as the parents of the child. Hilaire’s mother collapsed when she found out her son was missing and she was taken to the hospital. When released, she spent the night handing out fliers for the searchers, while Hilaire’s father is currently deployed with the U.S. Navy.

The search began shortly after the amber alert was sent out, and it continued all through the night and into the next day, with the search taking place on both land and in the water. The boys body was found 100 yards offshore from Fiesta Island at 11:00am the next day. Shockingly enough, police also found the body of an adult while searching for Wesley.

Police were investigating his disappearance as a possible kidnapping, because there had been reports of suspicious activity between a man and a child at the beach restroom earlier that day. After searchers discovered Hilaire’s body in Mission Bay, they no longer believe the drowning to be homicidal, but accidental, however the actual cause of death will be determined by medical examiners.
