Five Nights At Freddy’s Set To Creep Into Theaters

Even those who keep a close eye on the video game scene might be surprised by the turnaround rate of the Five Nights at Freddy’s games. What started as a single title became a trilogy in almost half a year; that’s setting aside the attention it’s gotten for both its ruthless scare tactics and the frantic squeals scattered across YouTube. It’s safe to assume that a fourth game might follow, but shockingly, that’s not the only place Freddy and friends might set up shop. If all goes well, Five Nights at Freddy’s will head to the silver screen.

Warner Bros. is confirmed to have the rights to the movie, with Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee — the producer for movies like How to Train Your Dragon and The Lego Movie — attached to it. Additionally, Dave Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith are attached as well, the former acted as producer to Beetlejuice, while the latter is planned to write for Beetlejuice 2. Currently there are no writers or director for Five Nights, but that can change at any point in the future.

It’s important to note that there’s a difference between a movie’s announcement and a movie’s completion. An Uncharted movie was planned for 2011, but has yet to materialize in theaters — and that’s still a marked improvement over plenty of other projects left on standby. Beyond that, there’s still the question of quality; it’s one thing to take a video game — let alone something like Five Nights — and adapt it, but it’s another thing entirely to have that adaptation be anything good.

Whatever the case, it’ll be interesting to see what comes of this announcement. Maybe one day soon, theaters all over will be filled with screams.
