Ferrari 250 GTO Sets New World Record At Auction

We all know that a Ferrari is an expensive car, but what is the most money someone has ever paid for one? This past weekend a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO went to auction and sold for more than most people would make in twenty lifetimes.

The 55-year-old car is one of only 39 ever made, has a V12 engine producing 300 brake horsepower, and had an illustrious career. It finished fourth place at Le Mans in 1963, won the ten-day Tour de France road rally in 1964, and has raced around Europe and Africa. The highest figure ever paid for a 250 GTO prior to this weekend’s auction was £31 million – so how much did this one sell for?

It is believed that David MacNeil – CEO of WeatherTech – bought the race car at auction over the weekend, and paid $70 million (£52 million) for it. That’s £21 million higher than the previous highest-selling 250 GTO sold for.
