Experts Say Stop Using Times New Roman Font On Resumes
For those out of work right now and sending out more and more resumes every day, make sure you aren’t using Times New Roman as the font! This is your first impression to a prospective employer, so you want to make sure you are standing out among the hundreds of resumes they receive.
Wendy Weiner, professional resume writer, said: “Since a prospective employer is looking at the resume for only [a few] seconds, you want a font that is aesthetically pleasing and grabs the employers attention at a quick glance. The resume should be sophisticated in design with clear headings that stand out.”
With that being said, it looks like Times New Roman does not meet the cut. If you are using Times New Roman, Brian Hoff, creative director of Brian Hoff Design, said, “It’s telegraphing that you didn’t put any thought into the typeface that you selected.” He went on to say that using Times New Roman on a resume is like “putting on sweatpants” for an interview!
On the other side of things, Bloomberg said that Helvetica is your best bet for a font choice, as it is a “no-fuss,” “lighthearted” font. Keep this in mind before sending out your next resume to a prospective employer.
