Artist Recreates London Skyline Using Recycled Newspapers
Artist Andy Singleton teamed up with PlayStation in order to recreate the London skyline using nothing but recycled newspaper. The breathtaking project was created in order to help launch the newest PlayStation 4 game, Tearaway Unfolded. Most of the buildings recreated were the Gherkin, Big Ben and St Paul’s Cathedral.
The artwork was inspired by the game’s amazing imaginative world of paper, with the newspaper sculpture taking approximately 120 hours to create. Andy Singleton used about 100 discarded recycled newspapers that were collected from the many streets of London. It took about ten weeks to collect all of the newspapers.
The London Skyline newspaper creation weighs about 300kg and stands at two and a half meters, measuring from its tallest point. People can view the artwork at London’s Southbank. When discussing his creative work, Andy Singleton said he’s used to creating works of art from paper, but this was the first time he’s ever used recycled newspapers. He is excited for people to see his new work.
“I specialize in creating art from paper, but this is the first time I’ve used recycled newspapers and it wasn’t without its challenges. Bringing to life the incredible paper world from Tearaway took me over two months, but I’m thrilled with the results.”
