You Are Probably Petting Your Cat Wrong

If you have notice your cat not wanting to sit still while you pet it, you are probably doing it wrong. As it turns out, there is a right way to pet a cat. The study which was published in Applied Animac Behaviour Science shows that “”As part of its role as a pet, cats are expected to not only tolerate but enjoy being touched.” In the study, scientists have tried to determine what is the right way to do it via two experiments. The most obvious result – do not try to pet the cat’s tail. Tails have been proven to receive the most negative petting scores.

The Washington Post published that the tail area in cats “is sort of a cat erogenous zone, and petting may overstimulate it.” Instead, go for the area around the ears or the back. The most interesting thing according to the study was that negative responses were higher when owners, instead of strangers, stroked the cats.
