TV Star Catches Giant 800lb Fresh Water Stingray

Get a load of this thing! This massive freshwater stingray weighs in at roughly 800lbs and is the largest fish to have ever been caught on a fishing reel. The flat-bodied fish is nearly 8 ft wide and 14ft long, and took almost two hours to wrangle.

The man responsible for catching this beast was none other than nature conservationist Jeff Corwin. In the late 90’s early 2000’s, Corwin was the poster boy for multiple nature shows. While on a trip to Thailand earlier this week, Corwin managed to catch the stingray on the Mae Klong river. The stingray was so big that it required the help of a small team just so Corwin could get the creature into his small fishing boat. Once they got it close enough to the boat, they were able to measure the creature in a custom designed pen.

Those curious to get a better look at it should tune into ABC later this year and watch ‘Ocean Mysteries with Jeff Corwin’. The TV host documented the whole event and it will be the highlight of his television special.
