She Pushed the Wrong Button and Won $10 Million

Do you dream about one day striking it rich? With tens of millions of dollars, any one of us could retire early, live on savings and investments, and enjoy life to the fullest without the toil of work. But too few will ever realize such a dream by playing the lottery. It’s a big, big gamble.

Late last year, in November, LaQuedra Edwards decided to gamble on her luck. At a supermarket in Los Angeles, she inserted $40 into a DIY lottery ticket vending machine, when “some rude person” bumped her from behind. In the minuscule shuffle, Edwards somehow managed to lean onto the machine itself, pressing the wrong number on her lottery ticket machine.

Of the incident, Edwards said, “He just bumped into me, didn’t say a thing, and just walked out the door.”

That’s okay, though, because it worked out in Edwards’ favor!

Typically, while playing the lottery, Edwards would use her $40 to purchase many smaller, cheaper tickets to spread out her luck. But the bump from behind caused her to accidentally purchase a $30 200X Scratchers lottery ticket. She was initially annoyed, and rightfully so, as most of her money was now gone.

But like any sane person, Edwards took the ticket and left the supermarket. In her car, she scratched away, quickly realizing she won the grand prize of $10 million!

Edwards said:

I didn’t really believe it at first, but I got on the 405 freeway and kept looking down at (the ticket), and I almost crashed my car.

I pulled over, looked at it again and again, scanned it with my (California Lottery Mobile) app, and I just kept thinking this can’t be right.

With her winnings, Edwards intends to purchase a home and form her own nonprofit to help those in need throughout Los Angeles, CA.
