Paramedic Fired After Man-Handeling An Aggressive Drunk

A Liverpool paramedic recently came under fire from his employer after he assaulted and man-handled an ‘aggressive drunken- man’ in the local hospital’s A&E department. The entire event was captured on the hospital’s CCTV camera system, which showed the paramedic, Adrian Penfold-Ivany, grabbing hold of the gentleman by the clothing and tossing him to the floor multiple times.

The drunken victim was reportedly fighting with hospital staff and visitors before being dragged towards the exit of the building by the paramedic, who was trying to remove the overly-aggressive individual from the room.

Speaking to Liverpool Echo, Penfold-Ivany said: “Right now, the way I’ve been treated and made to feel, I wouldn’t be sorry if I never saw the inside of an ambulance ever again. So at the end of all this, was it worth it? For the lives I saved and people who’s lives I touched, absolutely yes. But the cost to me personally? Absolutely not.”

A court deemed the level of force used by Penfold-Ivany to be excessive, and the decision was upheld during a review panel over the future of his paramedic license and career. The final judgement came down after it was shown the drunken man had never assaulted the medic, thus his response was not justified at the time.
