Oregon Woman Dies In Horrific Car Accident The Day After Becoming Engaged

Authorities have reported on Thursday that Melissa Hudson, 28, died in a car accident on Sunday, while her fiancee is still in the hospital fighting for his life. The accident occurred the day after the fiancee, Jacob Zeliff, 32, proposed to her on a California beach on Hudson’s birthday.

The couple had been on their way back to Grants Pass, Oregon, and were close to the Oregon border when Zeliff moved over into a left turn lane and then collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle. The collision overturned Zeliff and Hudson’s Jeep. Hudson died soon after the accident, while Zeliff was flown to Oregon Health and Science University in Portland.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident. According to California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Brandy Gonzalez, the other driver is being treated for moderate injuries, but this unnamed driver is not at fault.

A friend, Nancy Iannois, has set up a fundraiser on the website GoFundMe to help pay for the funeral expenses. According to Iannois, “Her birthday turned out to be the happiest day of her life, as the man of her dreams proposed to her on the beach. She woke up on Sunday and made phone calls to those she loved to wish them Happy Mother’s Day and to share her excitement over her newly engaged status. As many of us were basking in the joy of her blissfulness, the last thing we expected was the news that came next”.
