Netflix Is Now Worth More Than Disney

Streaming giant Netflix passed Disney’s market capitalization on Friday, making it the most valuable pure media company in the world. At market close on Friday, Netflix’s market cap reached $152.7 billion, $470 million more than Disney’s.

Netflix rose 0.57 percent on Friday, six times more than Disney did; at 0.09 percent. In just three years, Netflix’s stocks have rose more than $110 billion – from sitting at $40 billion in July 2015, to $152 billion today. Netflix recently passed Comcast too, which currently has a market cap of $146 billion. This makes Netflix the most valuable pure media company in the world, and its rise is only going to continue as the entertainment industry heads towards streaming.

Netflix is available in more than 190 countries in the world, however its valuation would soar even further if it became popular in China. The streaming platform is adding more and more content on a daily basis, and continually increasing the number of languages its content is available in. There are currently more than 125 million Netflix subscribers around the globe – almost 2 percent of the world’s population is a subscriber.

Many A-list celebrities are turning to the platform as well. Angelina Jolie recently directed and produced First They Killed My Father, while other stars appearing in Netflix Originals include Will Smith, Idris Elba, Kevin Spacey, and Ashton Kutcher.
