Miley Cyrus Comes Out As Genderqueer

Upon launching a super-cool charity foundation for LGBT, homeless and at-risk youth, Miley Cyrus held a concert in her backyard featuring Laura Jane Grace, a transgender punk pioneer and Joan Jet, a lesbian rocker who sang Cyrus’ song “Different” as a sort of anthem for the foundation. Cyrus is planning on posting weekly “backyard sessions” on the Happy Hippie Foundation Facebook page which are aimed to draw attention to the foundation’s fundraising. The charity already did some real work, prior to today’s opening to the public. “The first round of Happy Hippie grant money went to a Los Angeles homeless youth drop-in center called My Friend’s Place. The foundation set the center up with a full two years of meals and snacks, clean socks and underwear, and other services for its homeless youth population,” said Cyrus.

She went on to declare one more thing in an interview with Out magazine, although not labeling it, the famous singer appears to be genderqueer. “I didn’t want to be a boy,” she told the magazine. “I kind of wanted to be nothing. I don’t relate to what people would say defines a girl or a boy, and I think that’s what I had to understand: Being a girl isn’t what I hate, it’s the box that I get put into.” The famous pop star came out as non-straight in an interview with Associated Press, telling the reporter how not all of her relationships have been heterosexual. Cyrus is putting her fortune to good use by helping confused and scared LGBT youth and saying it’s okay to opt out of gender altogether. She’s the second celebrity idol, after Bruce Jenner, to come out as non-cisgender.
