Marching Band Creates NSFW Image Of Rival’s Mascot

Kansas State University has apologized for their halftime show during a football game on Saturday night. The show misrepresented what was supposed to be a spaceship attacking their rival’s mascot as something completely offensive. The marching band claims that the Star Trek-themed performance was to depict the Starship Enterprise attacking the University of Kansas’ mascot, the Jayhawk. Band director Frank Tracz tweeted out a picture of the lineup.

Unfortunately, this is what it really looked like on the field. For people that may not have known what the theme was, they could have come up with something completely different and glaringly offensive.

ESPN reported that Tracz apologized about the mishap: “Tracz went on to apologize for the “misinterpretation” and said the band meant “absolutely no disrespect or malice toward the University of Kansas.” When looking at the design and final product, there’s definitely a difference. However, even in the design stage, it’s too close to what could wrongly be depicted and it would have been wiser to go in a different direction.
