Lions, Tigers, A Jaguar And A Bear Escape From German Zoo

Privately-owned Eifel Zoo, which was first established in 1965, had some enclosures damaged by storms and flooding over the past couple of days. As a result of the damage to the enclosures,  two lions, two tigers, a jaguar and a bear escaped from the zoo in Lünebach, Germany on Friday. Upon discovering that the animals were no longer in their enclosures, police, the fire brigade, and a team of local veterinarians began a thorough search of the surrounding area.

The bear was found on Friday morning and shot, however it is unsure if police shot the bear or someone else. The five big cats were still on the loose, until a drone spotted them in another section of the zoo.

The lions, tigers and jaguar were recaptured on Friday afternoon and placed into their enclosures, with staff checking the fencing to ensure they wont escape again. There have been no reported injuries from the escaped animals, however it is unfortunate that the bear was shot.

The zoo spans more than 70 acres and is home to more than 400 animals, including 60 exotic and native animals. Thankfully no other animals have been reported missing.
