Lampreys Are Falling From The Sky In Alaska

Only a week ago, reports came in to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game that lampreys were being found in strange places. Lamprey are a type of fish that live in the water, and they feed off of other, more normal looking, fish. While they don’t live on land, four of them have been found so far in various places, one in a parking lot and another in someone’s yard.

While there is no definitive answer as to why it’s raining these ugly creatures in Alaska, the Department of Fish and Game have hypothesized that sea gulls are the culprits. The gulls are assumed to have picked up the eel-like creatures and dropped them mid-flight. Although lampreys feed on fish, leaving visible holes in their sides, they are thought of as hard to catch, and have a short lifespan, so many Alaskans that see them in their yards may be unaware of what the fish is.
