Heartwarming And Redeeming Photo From Baltimore Protests Going Viral

Bishop M. Cromartie, as he was helping to clean up the streets of Baltimore with a handful of volunteers, captured a redemptive photo amidst all the wreckage of shattered windows, burning buildings and destroyed police cars. In the photo a young boy, his arms laden with water bottles, is offering policemen the bottles.

Currently, the photo has over 68,000 shares on Facebook, and it’s going viral on Twitter as well. T.V. news anchor Constance Jones of WPLG Local 10 News tweeted, “HANDS DOWN the most powerful picture I have seen from #Baltimore”. Many comparisons are being made between this photo and “Flower Power”, which is the 1967 photo of a Vietnam protester who puts a flower in the barrel of a National Guardsman’s rifle.

The Baltimore protests, which are a response to Freddie Gray’s Death – a young man who died from a spine injury while in police custody earlier this month – are another explosion of frustration over police brutality. It reasonable to say the protests are counterproductive, but those like Bishop M. Cromartie and the young boy in the photo are certainly making an admirable and honorable effort to set things right, providing inspiration for us all.
