French Olympic Medalists Killed In Helicopter Crash

According to BBC News reports, on March 9th, 2015, Argentina was the site of tragic helicopter crashes that took the lives of everyone aboard, including three French sports personalities who were filming an episode of the television survival show, Dropped. The three French sports stars killed were Olympic Swimmer Camille Muffat, Olympic Boxer Alexis Vastine, and long-distance yachtswoman Florence Arthaud. The crash occurred approximately 720 miles northwest of Buenos Aires near Villa Castelli.

Five other French nationals were aboard the helicopter as well as the two local Argentine pilots. According to KOMO News, the pilots were identified as Juan Carlos Castillo and Roberto Abate.

This episode of ‘Dropped‘ was to take place in Argentina’s rough terrain near the Andes Mountains. The French Sports contestants were to be dropped from the helicopter and filmed as they foraged for food and shelter. Tragically, an explosion was reported shortly after take-off, and it is speculated that the helicopters collided, triggering the explosion.

It is believed that the weather conditions were favorable for flying and should not have contributed to an accident. Officials will investigate further to determine the cause of the crash.
