Florida Woman Arrested For Riding A Sea Turtle

Police in Melbourne, Florida have arrested a woman who was photographed riding a sea turtle on a beach in July. After responding to reports of a fight in the Melbourne area, police arrived to find that one of the women involved in their investigation had an active felony arrest warrant out for her and promptly arrested the 20-year-old.

Stephanie Moore had been wanted by police for months after photographs of her riding or sitting on a sea turtle circulated on social media after they had first been sent on Snapchat. While two people took part in the incident, officers were only able to positively identify Moore and issued a warrant for her arrest in July.

She now faces a felony charge for “possession, disturbance, mutilation, destruction, selling, transference, molestation, and harassment of marine turtles, nests or eggs“, a rule imposed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission to protect the endangered sea turtles. She has since been taken to Brevard County Jail, where she is being held on a $2,000 bond.
