Dying Teen Gets Wish, Marries Girlfriend Three Days Before Passing

16-year-old Omar Al Shaikh was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia after he fainted at a soccer match. The teenager was getting treatment and was in remission when he met Amie at his 16th birthday party. The two instantly became friends and began dating afterwards.

In March, Omar received the devastating news that his cancer had returned. His last round of chemotherapy was unsuccessful and caused the cancer to spread to his bone marrow. On June 14th, doctors told Omar he had only a few days to live. Two days later, Omar decided to propose to Amie. Amie said she didn’t think twice about saying yes to Omar after she heard the news of his cancer returning.

The two teenagers got the blessings from their parents to get married. The wedding ceremony took place in one day and all of their family and friends came to the hospital to see the two teens join in union. Amie’s mother, Beck Cook said despite the heartbreaking circumstances, the ceremony was lovely.

“Obviously it was a really lovely ceremony but it just came about from such heartbreaking circumstances. Omar was such a nice boy and, knowing he didn’t have long left to live, I just wanted them to have their big day. You could see how much it meant to him.”

Three days after Omar and Amie said their ‘I Do’s’, Omar passed away. Omar was able to marry the love of his life, and died with his family and wife by his side. Amie said she is glad she had the chance to make such a memory with Omar.

“As he put the ring on my finger he said he wished he had more time with me. I really wish we had too, but I’m just so glad we had the chance to make this happy memory. “
