Donald Trump Piñatas Becoming Popular in Mexico
Donald Trump, the billionaire TV personality and 2016 Presidential hopeful, isn’t shy about his hard-line stance on immigration. In a speech, he ruffled quite a few feathers by insinuating Mexican immigrants were criminals and rapists.
“The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems.” He said. “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us [sic]. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.“
The comments sparked immediate backlash, leading Trump to make the statement: “I love Mexico, I love the Mexican people.”
But for many in Mexico, it wasn’t enough. In fact, the backlash only got more festive. Dalton Ramirez, a Mexican artist and entrepreneur, designed a Donald Trump pinata for people who’d like nothing more than to bash the billionaire’s face in with a stick. A broom handle or baseball bat works, too.
“Normally I don’t care if the pinatas I made will be broken,” Ramirez said, speaking in Spanish. “But especially this pinata, we could say, is the one that everyone wants to break. When we were making it, we said, ‘Let’s break it, let’s do something to it,’ because we’re angry because of what he said.“
