David Lynch Officially Resigns From ‘Twin Peaks’ Revival
Twin Peaks fans got a bit of bad news over the Easter weekend when original series creator David Lynch announced he was no longer going to be part of the revival. The series was planned for a comeback in 2016 on Showtime, after more than a decade off the air. While Lynch was careful to make it clear that the revival itself isn’t dead yet, the writer wasn’t getting the kind of feedback or financial support he needed in order to continue to be tied to the project.
According to Variety, Lynch took to Twitter to announce he was done with Twin Peaks. “Dear Twitter Friends, Showtime did not pull the plug on Twin Peaks” Lynch wrote. “After 1 year and 4 months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done.“
Lynch’s announcement comes after reports had suggested that the show’s return was canceled. Lynch said that while he would not be writing for the show if it does return to the airwaves, he doesn’t know if Showtime has scrapped plans for a new series altogether. For it’s part, Showtime issues a release shortly after Lynch went public with his departure claiming it still held out hope the network could keep him on board. Reports indicate that Lynch has already written nine episodes and he was also set to direct. Now the future of Twin Peaks seems very much in doubt.
