Cristiano Ronaldo Named Most Charitable Sports Star

Real Madrid and Portugal footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the most charitable sportsperson in the world for the second time. The list, compiled by the organization DoSomething, put the star on top of the likes of John Cena, Serena Williams, Neymar and LeBron James.

The 30-year-old footballer has a well-documented history of donating money and time to various charities and good causes. Earlier in the year he donated $83,000 to a young fan who needed vital brain surgery when asked to donate some of his old kit to auction. He also provided $165,000 to a cancer centre in Portugal and reportedly donated more than $7 million to organization aiding Nepal after a deadly earthquake.

He has also donated money to help a Real Madrid fan who needed expensive experimental medication to help fight spine cancer and raised funds in 2004 after a tsunami hit Indonesia. Ronaldo also acts as an ambassador for a number of charities such as UNICEF, World Vision and Save the Children.

He even goes so far as to avoid getting any tattoos because of the risk of cross contamination or an infection, which would prevent him from donating blood twice a year.
