California Man Tears Tendon Playing Candy Crush For Too Long

It looks like “Candy Crush Saga” could be a dangerous game, as a California man tore a tendon in his thumb after playing the game every day for six to eight weeks straight. These injuries are usually pretty serious and pretty painful, but the man was not feeling it while playing his game. His thumb did start to hurt and he was having trouble moving it, so he consulted doctors.

He was told that he tore his tendon, but it was in an odd place. Doctors said a tear like this is normally ruptured at the thinnest part, which is where it attaches to the bone. However, his tear was at the thickest part of the tendon and this normally causes pain before the actual rupture. This man felt no pain while playing Candy Crush.

In a study released on this case, the doctors said: “The potential for video games to reduce pain perception raises clinical and social considerations about excessive use, abuse, and addiction. Future research should consider whether pain reduction is a reason some individuals play video games excessively, manifest addiction, or sustain injuries associated with video gaming.”

So, playing video games for too long can actually send natural painkillers into your body and the doctor said it is similar to what people call a “runner’s high” after going for a run. This could be why the gentleman never felt the pain during his binge Candy Crush marathon.
