Burn Survivor Lets Her Crush Take Her Makeup Off

Shalom Nchom, 22, was badly burnt when she was nine years old after a pot of hot oil fell on her and her sister in her mother’s grocery store. Nchom, who is now a vlogger and goes by the name of Shalom Blac, lost most of her hair and has scars covering a large portion of her shoulders, face, and chest. In an attempt to hide these scars, Nchom conceals them with makeup, and never really lets anyone see what’s underneath.

Nchom, who was born in Nigeria, was brought to the United States by her aunt for surgery after staying in hospital in Nigeria for 4 months. Her aunt brought Shalom, her sister and her mother to the US. Shalom struggled throughout the years with bullying and had low self esteem due to her injuries.

“I started really wanting to work on myself and to be comfortable and confident, because I wanted to feel free. I wanted to be able to do whatever I wanted. I wanted to be able to wear clothes that I want to wear. I used to be in long sleeves 24/7 because of my scars,” Nchom said in her video.

Nchom recently uploaded a video of herself and her crush, and in the video she let her crush take her makeup and wig off. This was important to Nchom, as she said that she couldn’t even go to her local 7-Eleven without makeup. Recently though, Nchom has been challenging herself to go makeup free – even going to Walmart without makeup and said that she was “the happiest girl” when she managed to do it.

In the video, Nchom lets fellow vlogger J Cook take her makeup off. “I basically wanted to challenge myself to strip my make-up in front of somebody that I might be a little crushing on, you know? I think he’s cute,” Nchom said. Before Cook joined her in the video, Nchom said “I think after doing this I’m definitely going to gain some sort of confidence in myself. It’s not about getting validation from anybody, from that person, but for myself.
