Boston Bombing Survivor Rebekah Gregory Hits The Boston Marathon On A Prosthetic Leg
Rebekah Gregory was one of the runners injured in the tragic bombing during Boston Marathon in 2013. Two years later, she is attending the same marathon and running the last 3.5 miles of the race on her new prosthetic leg. “Two years ago, I was lying on the pavement, fighting for my life. One year ago, I was being pushed in a wheelchair across the finish line when we did the 1K Tribute [walk]. And this year, the only thing hitting the pavement will be my running shoes,” said Gregory in an interview to Fox News.
Gregory has gathered quite a following on her social media accounts. She wrote on Instagram after getting her new prosthetic leg: “So excited to announce my new addition to the world!!! Meet Felicia. Born at 1:06pm. 4 pounds 8 ounces…18 inches long and absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!“
Rebekah shared a photo of her ready for the run with a caption: “I’m ready“. Her optimism and will for life are garnering amazing response which can be seen whenever she makes a guest appearance as a speaker, and even in comments on her social media accounts. One of them says: “Some things happen in life for a specific purpose. I can’t tell you what an inspiration you are to me. I hope for nothing but the best for you in everything you do for the rest of your life.” A year ago, when Rebekah was thinking about getting a prosthetic leg, her doctor, McGarvey, said it may be possible for Rebekah to run a full marathon in the future. “Based on what I’ve seen and the amount of commitment she’s put into everything she’s done to this point, and the attitude she has, I wouldn’t doubt it for a minute,” he said for BostonGlobe.
