Best And Worst From MTV Movie Awards

MTV Movie Awards took place this Monday, a brave move from MTV who decided to air the live show at the same time as HBO’s Game of Thrones. Amy Schumer hosted the show, flying onto the stage. Her monologues were brisk, feminist and funny and she was one of the highlights of the show which itself was another one of those blockbuster-promoting extravaganzas. Speaking of best moments of the show, worth mentioning is also Robert Downey Jr.’s acceptance speech for Generation Award. Downey Jr. was accompanied onstage by his Avengers costars Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth who kneeled before him as he joked about the stage set and how he was waiting for 10 years to “emerge from a massive, trippy cat head to receive the recognition I’ve so desired.

The show also featured a lengthy list of celebrities showing up to either present or pick up their awards. J.Lo spotted a sexy suit skirt and was also responsible for getting Channing Tatum to dance on the stage for her while presenting her with the award for the Best Scared as S*** Performance. Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara shared a kiss while presenting an award, all part of the promo for their new buddy comedy Hot Pursuit. Zac Efron and Dave Franco, two of the Hollywood’s hottest young male actors, came dressed as Robert De Niro’s from Meet the Parents and Taxi Driver, respectively. At the blue carpet, Scarlett Johansson arrived in a pink jumpsuit with her new short hairstyle.

The show was filled with commercial breaks and promo overload for Avengers and MTV’s new series Scream. RollingStone reports how one of MTV’s worst decision’s was not to ID the nominee’s movies — “Did MTV just assume everybody knows who Annabelle Wallis is and what movie she’s nominated for? It’s like the network is more of less admitting that this part — the movies and whatnot — didn’t really matter.” Despite all that, the MTV Movie Awards topped Nielsen’s Twitter ratings for the week of April 6-12.
