American Woman Becomes The Oldest Living Person In The World
A woman from Arkansas, a state located in the Southern region of the United States, is now said to be the oldest living person in the world. American supercentenarian Gertrude Weaver was born on July 4th, 1898, which means she will be 117 years old on July 4th, 2015. She wishes President Barack Obama would celebrate her birthday on July 4th with her.
On one occasion, Weaver once said the secret of longevity was to treat every person with a good heart. “Treat people right and be nice to other people the way you want them to be nice to you” said Weaver. Currently, Weaver is living in Silver Oaks Health and Rehabilitation, a nursing home in Camden, Arkansas. Researchers in the Gerontology Research Group, which studies people who are at least 110 years old, monitor her health development.
Every day, Weaver really enjoys her activities although she has to sit in a wheelchair. Weaver also manicures, reads the Bible and enjoys musical performances performed by the school or church choir in the neighborhood. Weaver, who has now passed the age of 116 years, became the oldest person in the world after the death of Misao Okawa from Osaka, Japan, at the age of 117 years. Okawa died on Wednesday, April 1st, in a nursing home where she was treated. Okawa’s relatives said she died peacefully, “as if she had just fallen asleep“.
