5-Year-Old Kicked Out Of Christian School Because Her Parents Are Gay

A 5-year-old girl has been allegedly kicked out of her Christian school because her parents are gay. The young girl’s parents, Lashaune and Sheena, were called into the Mt. Erie Christian Academy in San Diego, California, when they were told that their daughter would no longer be allowed to attend the preschool. She was also banned from all of the summer camp programs.

According to a spokesperson for the academy, the girl was dismissed because of a recent review of her application. Her parents however, think otherwise. The girl’s parents think she was kicked out of the Christian academy because they are gay. According to the school’s handbook, the school has the right to refuse admission to any student or discontinue the enrollment of any students under certain situations. The handbook states the following:

“This includes, but is not necessarily limited to, living in, condoning or supporting sexual immorality; practising homosexual lifestyle or alternative gender identity; promoting such practices; or otherwise having the inability to support the moral principles of the school.”

Thanks to the First Amendment of the United States, the school says it is protected and has the right to refuse membership based on religious beliefs. The school is allowed to refuse any student because it is a private institution instead of public.

Sheeena told reporters that she is heartbroken and upset. The family plans to file a civil rights lawsuit against the academy. “I didn’t finish the conversation with them when they took us in the room because I just, I didn’t want to look at them any longer. It was heartbreaking.”
